Annual Inura Conference
Amsterdam, 13-20 June 2004
The Creative City
Public
Event: 14 June 2004
INURA
holds its 2004 Conference in the Netherlands.
The
theme chosen for the 2004 Conference is THE CREATIVE CITY: The city as
a generator of ideas, of new cultural concepts and social relations. We
will scrutinize the tension between commercial influences like city branding
or the amusement industry and grassroots cultural and social initiatives.
Amsterdam
is the example of a very international city with commercial ties to the
global economy and immigrant ties to the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. We
shall discuss the new government policy on immigrants and refugees. In
Amsterdam we have the opportunity to visit (ex-)squatted buildings, meet
groups that work in the field of housing, art and culture, see some 'hatching
places' and hear about new experiments in housing and urban design.
As
always, during the retreat at the countryside, there will be ample time
for networking and discussing the past, present and future of Inura.
